RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace

Carroll Training Services (RTO#45753) offers the nationally recognised RIICOM201E – Communicate in the workplace unit of competency with high quality course materials and premier student support. We deliver training that is customised to meet the needs of our students and employers.

The RIICOM201E – Communicate in the workplace is the latest nationally accredited unit of competency that equips you with the skills needed to communicate in the workplace in the resources and infrastructure industries and other industries with relevant work practices and procedures.

This course is perfect for learners who are working or seeking to work in operational roles in the following fields:

    • Civil infrastructure
    • Coal mining
    • Construction
    • Drilling
    • Extractive
    • Metalliferous mining

 


How is the course delivered?

Training is delivered via face-to-face classroom session with pre-course learning.

Course Duration: This course is designed to be completed in up to 2 days.

Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend up to 10 hours of study depending on existing knowledge, skills, and experience.

What will you learn?

This course is designed to develop your expertise in working in operational roles. Among others, you will learn to:

    • Plan and prepare for workplace communication using equipment and systems
    • Communicate using communication equipment and systems
    • Carry out face-to-face routine communication
    • Complete written documentation

 


How is the course structured?

All learners will be assessed through observation during on-the-job or role play simulation, and questioning that may include self-assessment, verbal answers, written questionnaires, activity modules or interview.

 


What are the entry requirements?

There are no pre-requisites to enter the course. However, Carroll Training Services requires that students be between 17 to 75 years old.

 


What are the resources needed to complete the course?

To support you in your new course with Carroll Training Services, we will provide the following:

  • RIICOM201E learning and assessment suite, which is made available in hard copy and through the student portal and includes:
    • Learner Guide
    • Assessment Workbook
    • Handouts
  • Additional course readings as recommended by trainers
  • Industry and reference sources, which may include:
    • legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures
    • manufacturer’s guidelines and specifications
    • Australian standards
    • code of practice
    • management plans
    • pre-start and post-shutdown checklists
  • One (1) mine control/operations room
  • Equipment, which may include:
    • communication devices
    • computers and database management system accessories
    • monitors
    • power controls
    • touch pad

To complete your course, you will need ongoing access to the following:

  • Computer/laptop with relevant software such as, but not limited to, the following:
    • internet access preferably through Google Chrome
    • MS Word and PowerPoint
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader

What are the Qualification Pathways?

Students who complete this course may choose to pursue further studies in a range of qualifications, such as:

  • RII20720 Certificate II in Civil Construction*
  • RII30920 Certificate III in Civil Construction*
  • RII31220 Certificate III in Civil Foundations*
  • RII30820 Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations*

*These qualifications are not offered by Carroll Training Services. 

 


Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available?

RPL is not applicable to this unit. The Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2017, section 84, requires that each coal mine worker at the mine, including each worker holding a senior management or supervisory position and each worker holding a certificate of competency, is given refresher training under the mine training scheme at least once in every five (5) years.
